“I ended up selling the big-block I had built for the car and all the components that bolted onto it,” Chris says. While that meant having to go a different direction with the performance parts lineup, he was able to recognize that he could still make things interesting. Although the days of racing the car are most likely behind him, he did have a plan to get back in the driver seat, while hoping to share his passion with his son. It wasn’t until we had our first child and finished the remodel that I could start having fun with the Elky again.” Chris’ car changed right along with him as life took its natural twists and turns. “I got married, bought a house, and then began remodeling the entire house. “As my life began to change, my car took a back seat in my life for a while,” Chris admits. While none of that is nearly as exciting as speeding down the track all day, we all have to chill out and take care of business before going out to play again. When Chris wants to go fast, there’s just no stopping him-well, with the exception of the same stuff that tends to slow us all down, like growing up and facing real life responsibilities. At this point, he only drove it to local car shows or to the dragstrip to race. To get there, he had Steve Schmidt Racing of Indianapolis build a 523 big-block race engine that made 900 hp, and was able to safely handle a 300 shot of nitrous. This held Chris over for a few more years until 2007 when he decided he needed even more power underhood. Next came a 427ci big-block that made 427 hp, and a Chris Alston’s Chassisworks ’cage kit to beef up the chassis. Not sure what Chris was making in allowance at whatever after-school job he was able to land, but he was serious about always taking his precious Elky to the next level. A new cam, intake, headers, and even a full-on nitrous system found their way into the mix. Needless to say, Chris was still a teenager and was always interested in blowing the doors off of his friends’ cars, so he started making some upgrades to the engine. It had a mild small-block, an automatic transmission, and posi rearend-nothing crazy but perfect for a new driver. I generally like having something that doesn’t blend in with the masses, so this car was perfect for me.”īack then, Chris’ El Camino was a solid car. A family friend had a 1960 Elco, and I absolutely fell in love with it when I was a kid, so when I had the chance to buy one, I didn’t hesitate. “My friends all had older muscle cars back in high school, but nobody had an El Camino. “I first bought the car in March of 1998- a couple months after turning 16,” Chris says. He actually took good care of his and has gone on to do some pretty cool things with it over the years. He didn’t crash or blow his car up like the rest of us probably ended up doing with ours. Chris Decker, of San Mateo, California, is among the lucky ones who held onto their very first vehicle. While most car fiends can only dream about making progress to their first ride, there are a few who are experiencing the rare treat of still being able to wrench on them to this day.

Terrain on the former is a composition of lapilli, lava stone, piroclastic material, ash, and a particular, friable rock (locally called Tassone). The property's 173 acres under vine are divided into two farmsteads: Tenuta di San Castrese and Tenuta di Parco Nuovo, closer to the coast. The range - covering no less than 95% of the appellation's entire production of Falerno del Massico! - is styled by Riccardo Cotarella with the founder's son and daughter, Salvatore "Tani" and Maria Ida Avallone. Since the estate's first official vintage in 1976, these exclusive Villa Matilde clones have incarnated a red Falerno del Massico and its white brethren, direct descendants of those wines celebrated by Virgil and Horace.Īll wines are nurtured by the unique microclimate and soil of Villa Matilde: volcanic, mineral-rich hills facing the Mediterranean sun and the sea (just minutes from the gorgeous Gulf of Gaeta), sheltered on three sides by the Massico mountain range. Decades of inspired and dedicated work ultimately bore splendid fruit: 20 original clones of Aglianico, Piedirosso (both red) and Falanghina (white), trademarked as Villa Matilde. In synergy with the University of Naples, his research team found the best surviving vines and patiently grafted cuttings onto new rootstock. In the 1950s and early 1960s, a successful lawyer named Francesco Paolo Avallone set out on a unique mission: bringing this favorite of emperors back to life. (The name, incidentally, comes from "falanga" rather than a particular variety: the varieties themselves being three, both white and red.) The resulting wine was to become the "immortal Falerno" sung by the great poets of ancient Rome. Where vine shoots had originally laid directly on the ground, it was in northwestern Campania they were first supported by wooden poles (falanga) above the soil. Over 3000 years ago, on the lavic, mineral-rich slopes near Mount Massico and the volcano of Roccamonfina, Greek settlers reinvented viticulture, adjusting cultivation methods to the climate and soil of their adoptive home. The ghost is never truly terrifying, nor do I think she is supposed to be, but the filmmakers did a great job with her. The trail of breadcrumbs that are left for Tom and the audience create a captivating adventure and the spooks are on the lighter side and well spaced out. If you’re searching for a breezy horror experience that won’t completely bum you out, gross you out or keep you up at night, this would be a solid choice. Finally, Tom has found a purpose in life but as this mission consumes him, his family worry he’s going too far. He quickly realises the ghost in his house is trying to communicate something, that there is a secret to be uncovered. She leaves his mind an open door and Tom unwillingly becomes a receiver to the ‘other side’, haunted by a variety of fun visions, premonitions and sixth sensing. During a house party, the skeptical and hostile Tom agrees to be hypnotised by his spiritually minded sister-in-law, played by Illeana Douglas. His reaction? “Bummer.” You want something to spice up your life, Tom? Well hows about a son who is being constantly harangued by a live-in ghost? Better yet, his power is hereditary, and he didn’t catch it from his mother. For example, a few minutes into the film, his wife reveals she is once again pregnant. This bitterness has frankly turned him into a bit of a dick. Bacon plays Tom, a middle aged phone line engineer who feels a deep resentment for his plain existence. Stir of Echoes was based on a 1958 novel by the legendary Richard Matheson, adapted for the screen and directed by David Koepp, one of Hollywood’s highest paid screenwriters. But as my momma always used to say: There’s more than enough room for two entertaining films about kids seeing dead people in one summer release period. 1999’s Stir of Echoes, starring Kevin Bacon, may have been overshadowed by the release of The Sixth Sense just a month prior. The late 90s and early 2000s saw a resurgence of this particular horror brand, with huge stars like Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford getting involved. The genre began to attract respectable A-list actors such as Gregory Peck to star in spooky slow burn chillers and thrillers. Horror cinema achieved a certain level of class in the late 60s and 70s. Metaphysical PropertiesĬonnecting to Lemurian quartz means coming into contact with its contained energy as well as its grid of allied energies from the planet, stars, and beyond. On Moh’s scale, the hardness rating is 7. Usually, the unique horizontal striations terminate to form a triangular face, making the apex. The profound ridges on the sides make Lemurian crystals distinct. These striated lines run horizontally across the sides, resulting in a fairly prismatic form. Commonly, the sides would have alternating smooth and striated faces. These lines are similar to barcodes and render a distinct texture. The most unique physical property of these crystals is a set of grooves or ladder-like horizontal striations on their single or multiple faces. Although transparent, many cuts possess a subtle mistiness due to which you cannot see through unlike glass. They are also found embedded in compressed sand. Lemurian quartz stones are rugged and feature lighting marks, as they attract lightning being on a surface level. Those who discovered these caves found the crystals on the ground and felt as if they were seeds of knowledge rooted for the taking. While growing in a cluster, it is likely to be so fragile that it can automatically fall on the crystal cave’s floor. The Lemurian seed crystals are very delicate. The reason for having a different or another color is usually a light layer of iron oxide. Lemurian crystals can be found in a variety of colors, also considered as golden healers, apart from clear off-white, such as apricot, blue, pink, citrine, and green. Usually, these gemstones are off-white but may have a tinge of pink-brown generating charming reflections when exposed to light. Nevertheless, the subtle differences set the former ones apart. At first glance, they appear like clear quartz stones. Most specimens of Lemurian quartz have the shape of a laser wand, while the rest are in the form of an egg shape. This is the most recommended use of Lemurian quartz.įeaturing ladder-like striations similar to etched lines and barcodes, the Lemurian quartz meaning signifies a set of steps to heaven, leading to a high experience of hope and light. They are considered highly efficient when it comes to communicating with the angels and spirit guides. Thus, they are also known as Lemurian seed crystals.īased on this legend, the meaning of this quartz is associated with unbelievable power, energy blockage removal for intense dreamwork and healing, and spiritual evolution. The legend says that these seed crystals were planted in an arrangement of a grid over and beyond the surface of the Earth, to other stars and dimensions. It is believed that while most Lemurians left this planet, others went inside the Earth to care for the planet and these crystals are now appearing. These rare crystals got seeded across the planet and universe with the ambiance of the Lemurian cognizance, an enlightened mental state profoundly connected to the planet and the heavenly realm. The Lemurians then seeded or planted these crystals, encoded with their knowledge. To preserve their customs and wisdom, they prepared the seed crystals.ĭuring their remaining days, they programmed these crystals with spiritual energies of healing to transmit a message of healing and oneness when the energy on Earth could gain them. According to the legend, the Lemurians allegedly predicted a catastrophic event. It is believed that Lemurian wisdom is held in these crystals that they can aid you in obtaining it. I'm not sure if you can view the queue in CarPlay but Car Thing will soon have an update where you can view the queue and add to it using icons and Hey Spotify voice commands. Makes it easier to control things while driving. There is also a "Hey Spotify" voice assistant that has more features than the basic "Hey Siri" commands you can do. It's also more Spotify like than using the CarPlay UI.Ĭar Thing has 4 preset buttons on the top that you can save your favorite things to play to and quickly access them. I think the main advantages are the preset buttons and the Hey Spotify voice assistant. You can find more info and help guides for the Car Thing here: Most newer phones do not have a headphone jack anymore though so the most popular setup option will be Bluetooth. Phone connected to car via Bluetooth (to send the audio to the car speakers) AUX and USB also supported if you don't want audio to go through Bluetooth.Car Thing connected to phone via Bluetooth (for the Car Thing to control the Spotify mobile app). The phone is sending the audio to the car via Bluetooth. The Spotify app on your phone is loading the songs and doing all the main playback. The Car Thing doesn't have an internet connection or speaker. I can also have maps on my phone at the same time as Car Thing does music. With Car Thing screen always on and ready with voice activation and preset buttons, I don't have to mess with my phone. Also, if you want maps and music at the same time then good luck with that. I don't want my phone always unlocked and draining battery or getting OLED screen burn in. Even though I also have my phone mounted and charged, it locks and then you have to unlock it. The main comments I see against this device are "just use your phone" but the problem is that your phone isn't always on and easy to use while driving. It makes it so you don't have to touch your phone while driving and instead can mount and use the Car Thing which has an always on screen and easy to use buttons. It might still be useful even if you have that new stuff though. Car Thing is mainly made for older cars that don't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The Buckwild production “Me and My Microphone” is a true gem, featuring an exuberant Q-Tip on the hook as A+ cleverly likens a mic to a beloved girlfriend. What can’t be debated, however, is the fact that A+ can seriously spit, and he possesses a delivery, breath control, and vocal presence that many seasoned MCs would kill for. In order to make him marketable to a wide audience, his verses are definitely doctored and refined with clean closers and cadences, which can probably be said of the majority of major label artists. This should by no means cast A+ as a fraud it’s hard to imagine that anyone his age could truly possess the wisdom or experience requisite for a literate mid-90s New York street record, and if ghostwriting is really as prevalent as some purport, it doesn’t place him on a different plane than most of his elders. While I have no information to confirm my suspicions, I’d suggest that what’s more likely is A+ had a crew of veteran ghostwriters helping him with his fledgling craft. “The Latch-Key Child” is an album of such rare introspection and comprehensive narratives that it would be impressive from a man of any age that it came from a fourteen-year-old is borderline unbelievable. If A+ did in fact construct the impeccably-penned, profoundly reflective lyrics and artful rhyme schemes of “The Latch-Key Child,” he was one of hip hop’s greatest unsung prodigies. This, of course, provides a convenient lead-in to the elephant in A+’s room. In addition to the heavy contemplation and poignantly crafted profiles chronicled through his three verses, he sports a fairly complex rhyme scheme. It’s a stunning opener, and it makes a clear statement that A+ is no ordinary tween or even one of the “stick-up kids” his contemporaries Illegal claimed to be rather, it places him as an heir apparent to the wide-eyed street poets of Queens and Brooklyn. “Move On” is a song of the content and quality that countless rappers have aspired to—a deep, stirring rumination on death. I blame it on the fools in the street that’s always blastin'” He never listened, and now my man is missin’ in action I used to tell him stop playin’ with that chrome-piece steel I can’t explain it, it’s ill how we used to feel I guess it came from all the stories that he heard in the street Now he stressed, fiendin’ just to hold some heat Where his pops kept a Glock and all the safety deposits He used to talk about the box in the closet Not a creature was stirrin’, not a roach or a mouseĪnd buggin’ on the horn with some honeys like a couple of playasĪnd now he’s gone, I’m speakin’ on my man Kayshawnįorever on my mind mentally as I kick my song The shot was fatal, he died right there up on the kitchen tableīlaow, it happened all alone in his house “He was only thirteen when he burst his spleen production “Move On,” with a spooky Isley Brothers sample and insight miles beyond his years: “The Latch-Key Child” draws mostly from the early work of Mobb Deep and his other slightly older neighbors from the nearby boroughs, and it’s a surprisingly gritty listen even given a few concessions made to cater to a young audience. A Hempstead native, he was a green fourteen years old when his debut “The Latch-Key Child” saw light through Kedar Massenburg’s first label venture. Some among their predecessors, such as Da Youngsta’s, Shyheim, and Illegal, were marketed at a hardcore hip hop base, and widespread success proved elusive—after all, why turn to a mere kid for ruminations on street life when one could just as easily listen to Nas and Scarface wax poetic?Ī+ (not to be confused with A-Plus of Souls of Mischief fame) came from the same wave of East Coast teen rappers in the mid-90s mentored by established MCs. If one looks back at some of the ’90s’ teen rap acts, however, manufactured stars such as Lil’ Bow Wow and Lil’ Romeo might in fact appear the products of years’ worth of trial and error. Teenage rappers are a phenomenon almost as old as hip hop itself, and the most lucrative were those marketed to a teeny-boppers’ audience. Don’t just depend on the current post to give you all that you need. This blog is simply loaded with information. This way I can understand how Callye names her posts and zero in on something I would never find otherwise, that is interesting because of the title alone. Also, sometimes I will even copy the list of titles and paste into a Word document and then print it to read at my leisure. And, then use the top tool bar and search. If you depend on links you can miss a whole lot of great information. My recommendation to read quite a number of posts over the four year life of this blog to get a sense of how it is all organized. Callye does a great job of adding links within a post, but really that doesn’t always cover what you need or may be interested in. My observation of the Sweet Sugar Belle site is that it is very complex. It’s also a good idea to use the Search field. Jeanne – The Royal Icing recipe can be found under Recipes on the top tool bar.
